Potentialities of Quang Binh Tousism

Located in central Vietnam, Quang Binh treasures of  variety of terrain ranging from lowland to forests, mountains to sea, rivers and islands. The geography, climate, habitat  formation and social transformation process have all together  brought about a diverse collection of natural and human values for the province.

Quang Binh covers an area of 8,037 square kilometers, the borderline with Ha Tinh province on the North, Quang Tri on the South, People’s Democratic Republic of Laos on the West with the borderline’s length of 220 km, The East Sea on the east with the border line’s length of 116 km.

The province has a total population of over 85.000 (2005), mainly young labor.

Quang Binh has the North-South railway, National Road 1A, two west – east branches of Ho Chi Minh Road, National Road No.12 linking Quang Binh and Laos; Road No.20, Road No.16 and Road No.10, Hon La seaport, Dong Hoi Airport, which are very convenient for tourists to visit, resort in the province.

Firstly, Quang Binh has many primeval forests (a coverage rate of the country’s largest) such as the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park (Bo Trach), the Khe Net Nature Reserve Zone, the Giang Man Mountain Nature Reserve Zone, the Khe Ve nature reserve Zone (Minh Hoa). Characteristics of Quang Binh natural forests are the high eco-tourism valuable tropical forests of biodiversity with rare animal species and its habitat beauty of tropical regions. In which the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park was recognized as a World Natural Heritage Site by the UNESCO on July 05, 2003 with outstanding values of geology and geomorphology. Currently, the Government of Vietnam has continued to compile scientific documentation   to UNESCO second time for recognition as a world natural heritage for biodiversity criteria.

Phong Nha – Ke Bang area has spectacular cave system, named as “ the Kingdom of caves” where there is a mystery of wonders and attraction such as Phong Nha cave, Tien Son cave, Dark cave, E cave, Vom cave, Thung cave… especially, Phong Nha cave is really prominent with surveyed length of nearly 8 km, mainly with underground rivers and valuated as one of the most beautiful scenery with characteristics as follows: for its longest underground river, for its most beautiful underground lake. for its highest and widest entrance, for its most beautiful and widest dry cave, for its most beautiful sandbank and reef, as well as for its most spectacular stalactites, stalagmites and longest water grottos. On May 2009, the British Cave Research Association surveyed Son Doong cave and valuated as one of  the beautiful caves and the  largest  in the world. At the same time, this time also discovered 2 new beautiful caves asTo Mo cave and Tu Lan cave.
Furthermore, Quang Binh has also many beautiful landscapes such as Ngang pass – Hoanh Son gate, Ly Hoa pass, Bang Mineral Hot Spring with surface water temperature of 1050C; Bau Tro lake, Hac Hai lagoon…

Quang Binh has a coastline of 116 km long from Ngang pass to Ha Co with its white dunes and beautiful beaches as Nhat Le – Quang Phu, My Canh – Bao Ninh, Ly Hoa – Da Nhay, Hai Ninh – Ngu Hoa… in addition, Quang Binh has also 4 large rivers: Roon river, Gianh river, Dinh river and Nhat Le.  There is the Hon La deep water bay with a depth of 15m, surrounding by many small islands such as Hon Nom, Hon Chua, Hon Co, bird Island and white coral shoals of thousands of hectares in the north, there are many high value for tourism development.

As a cultural hub, today Quang Binh has a large collection of both tangible and intangible cultural values of  North-South and East-West. Nowaday, the province has 87 historical and cultural monuments, including 51 monuments at national level, 36 monuments at provincial level and more than 70 festivals, among which 2 festivals at provincial level: Boi Trai (Boating) in Dong Hoi and Le Thuy, Ho Khoan tune of Le Thuy district, Minh Hoa full moon festival on March 15 (lunar calendar). There are more than 10,000 artifacts, including many valuable artifacts of prehistoric, which are preserved in the provincial museum. Especially is Ca Tru (sing Tru) in Dong Duong village, Quang Phuong commune, Quang Trach district. It’s a cultural values which is recognized as Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Quang Binh has also Gianh river, a mournful evidence of a period of whirligig of Dang Trong and Dang Ngoai (the separate south and north regions), the fierce battle in the two national defense wars and the home to eminent people like: Dr.Duong Van An, Le Thanh Hau Nguyen Huu Canh, General Vo Nguyen Giap…

Quang Binh has many historical relics revolutionary Ho Chi Minh Trail such as Heaven Gate, Khe Gat, Eight Voluntary Youth Cave, historical system ATP (the turning point with the curve shaping A, Tale tunnel, Phu La Nhich Pass) on the Quyet Thang Road No. 20, Xuan Son ferry, Long Dai bridge, Quan Hau …. the West of Quang Binh is home to many minority ethnics such as Bru – Van Kieu and Chut still preserved many unique traditional cultural features of both tangible and intangible cultural values, is the valuable humanistic tourism resources for Quang Binh to tourism development.
